Board member of MCE Clean Energy

  • The innovative & publicly owned energy company provides communities a greener, cheaper alternative to PG&E
  • Oversaw MCE’s becoming cheaper than PG&E, a major milestone for both  ratepayers and the fight against climate change
  • Helped guide MCE’s deployment of innovative new technologies to make clean energy more affordable, abundant and reliable
  • Executive Committee member since 2023

2-term board member of Transportation Authority of Marin

  • Has advocated consistently for transportation decisions to be made with an eye to climate change, emphasizing carbon footprint & resilience
  • Has championed greater investment in green, accessible public transit
  • Helped develop Countywide Transportation Plan

Board member of Central Marin Sanitation Agency (CMSA)

  • 2-term board chair
  • Helped re-imagine agency from wastewater treatment to resource recovery
  • Turned CMSA into a net-exporter of renewable energy, generated on-site
  • Led the charge on water recycling and reuse, during and post- drought

  • Co-Founder of the Bay Area Network of Jewish Officials (BANJO), which now has 72 members from throughout the 9-county Bay Area

Results On The Issues That Impact Us

Eli’s spent years working on the issues that affect our daily lives the most, from infrastructure to utility bills to public safety. His experience and record of results in local government has taught him how state government can best serve North Bay communities.

CLIMATE resilience
  • Developed Marin’s first long-range Climate Adaptation Plan to protect residents and property from flood and fire

  • Led the charge on local wildfire safety, including moving power lines underground, responsible vegetation management, and free fireproofing assistance for residents

  • Earned residents a 20% discount on flood insurance through extensive flood control planning

COVID-19
  • Oversaw a successful local response to the COVID pandemic, balancing the budget while avoiding layoffs or cuts to services and protecting residents & businesses

  • Created an emergency housing assistance program that kept residents who lost their jobs to COVID housed, which became a template throughout the county

  • Oversaw a robust business development strategy that helped the local economy bounce back from COVID, and helped develop regional economic recovery efforts

HOUSING & INFRASTRUCTURE
  • Prioritized equitable access to services for lower-income residents, including free day care, program discounts, and free pool access and swim lessons

  • Delivered $100+ million in infrastructure improvements for residents, including miles of repaving, new bike & pedestrian paths, repaired sewer lines, and a new Town Hall

  • Secured $37 million in state funding for local highway overpass retrofit by working closely with Senator McGuire & CalTrans

  • Built a durable coalition in support of sensible housing solutions, culminating in a town housing plan that has won statewide awards

  • Championed the creation of Corte Madera’s first permanent supportive housing for the formerly homeless, providing residents with housing and supportive services

Good Government
  • Placed the Town on a path to fully funding its pension liability & improved the Town’s credit rating to AAA

  • Implemented a suite of new fiscal responsibility policies, created an online public transparency portal, and started a Town emergency reserve fund

  • Streamlined local building regulations to incentivize energy efficiency while making it easier for residents to get permits and work on their homes

  • Built a more responsive local government by repealing or simplifying outdated or confusing local laws
